EMBROIDERED SILKSCREENS

Using recycled silkscreens as a foundation for my embroidery, I stitch across and alongside the faded artwork and any remaining marks. The whimsical stitches running through both sides of the screen transform with the element of light and the transparency of the screen, making the aspect of light an integral part of the piece.

PHOTO EMBROIDERY SERIES

Embroidered photography artwork refers to a form of mixed media art where a photograph is combined with embroidery. I begin by taking photographs of odd graphics, textures, graffiti and anything in nature. Using a needle and thread, I add details onto the surface of the image. The embroidery can range from subtle highlights to bold contrasting color. I love the added texture and dimension, creating an unexpected surprise when you look closer.

PHOTOGRAPHY - JUST ADD STITCHES

Photography is the first step. I am already envisioning where the stitches might go as I am framing in the composition. My photo library is overwhelming to say the least. See one you like? Let me create a custom piece for you.

Cheri Fasy started exploring different art forms at a very young age, which led to a career in graphic design and art. It was not uncommon to hear the nickname “Cheri Doodles” echoing through the creative household where she grew up. With a mother who is a renowned miniature quilt artist and four generations of needle workers, it is no wonder an inherent desire to hand-stitch led Cheri to explore mixed-media embroidery.

Two main series have developed from her interest in fiber art. The first combines her long-standing love of texture
photography and graphic compositions with an added layer of hand-embroidery. The stitches mimic a lot of her illustrations and playful doodles she developed as a graphic designer and illustrator. The photography is from years of capturing torn graphics, textures and nature shots; these printed photos become the first layer for her final photo embroidery pieces.

Her second related series uses
recycled silkscreens as a base for embroidery, which allow her to play imaginatively upon the ghosted images and residue left behind. The whimsical stitches transform with the element of light and the transparency of the screen, making the aspect of light an integral part of the piece.

Though rarely obvious in her final (and typically vibrant) pieces of art, Cheri explores areas of her brain that are prone to depression and perfectionism. Letting go and using art as a catharsis is organic and therapeutic with the process of stitching being a vital form of therapy and meditation.

Originally from Washington Sta
te, Cheri now resides in Baton Rouge with her 16-year-old daughter, Jolie and wife, Anastasia.
